maybelline color sensational the shine lip colors is a new range of lipsticks recently launched in australia. rrp aud$16.95.

they come in typical color sensational lipstick packaging with pretty translucent pink case and are described as "super shine like a gloss but all the benefits of a lipcolor".

the colors

there are 10 shades in this collection that are perfect for spring / summer. i think these should've released earlier!

note that the swatches are done with 2 swipes at the back of my hand. colors can be more intense with many many swipes but that's not how i'd wear on my lips.

user experience

they are quite smooth to apply and have faint sweet fruity scent.

though the bullet colors look solid they are sheer when applied. the most opaque colors from the range are are cherry candy and sugar plum, which are 2 of my most favorite colors from the range. they're also the only colors that shows up on my pigmented lips. the others provide very minor hint of colors to my lips.

though they're marketed to give 'super shine like a gloss', they only provide subtle shine to my lips.

the subtle shine and slight hint of color seems perfect for school girls who wants to wear makeup but don't want to make it too obvious.

because they're sheer, i don't expect long lasting staying power. they last about 1-2 hours and gone with sip of drink. with the nice sleek design i don't mind flashing the tube to touch up. :p

since i look washed out without lip color, i prefer to add these over lip pencil or another lipstick for some shiny sheen. mauve diamonds, mango diamonds and luminous cocoa work great on my lips. i love using them with maybelline's superstay lip pencil, another new product that will be released this month or next and i'll be posting a review soon.

these could be cheaper alternatives to the higher end sheer lipsticks that were released last year. i can't really compare since i don't own them. i've been contemplating getting one of those and now i can save some money!
