foodcooking

another post brought to you from prettymom's lazy kitchen.

dumplings is one of my favorites. if i could, i'd like to do it from scratch. starting from making the skin from flour. but this is only fun when you have a group of people doing it with you. it's absolutely boring when doing it all by myself.

i tried to be lazy with those ready-made dumpling skins. they ended up looking like wantons than dumplings. ie they suck! not to mention it's not fun wrapping them up all by myself.

i'm so thankful whoever invent frozen food. i can skip the boring steps.

frozen dumplings

i've tried so many brands and this is currently the best one i've found so far. just don't expect they're as good as you made it yourself. 3 packs for $10. saves time. good for 2 meals.

they have variety of fillings. i only prefer chinese cabbage and pork. beef or chicken with other veggie combinations just don't taste like dumplings.

pan fry

and for this particular brand, it tastes better pan frying. maybe because the way skin is made?

from what i can remember, when making the skin, for boiling dumplings (水餃), you mix flour with cold water only. for pan fry dumplings (鍋貼), you mix flour with 1/2 part hot and 1/2 part cold water. and for steam dumpling (蒸餃), you mix flour with just hot water.

however i've tried different combination and they taste the same to me.

so for pan frying. just add a bit of oil to pan. fill the pan with frozen dumplings. cook until one side is slightly golden. add about 1 cm of water. put on lid, turn down heat and let it simmer for 10 mins.

yummy dumplings

and it's ready to eat!

perfect with chinese dark vinegar and sesame oil. it's be nice if shredded ginger is added, but i'm to lazy to shred ginger and kids won't like them too.
