summer cleaning brushes

beauty

some advise to wash makeup brushes after every use. i'm lazy and i don't have the time. some said weekly is fine. i try to do that. but every often, it's a monthly duty for me. sometimes longer...

i'm now having my x'mas holiday and stay at home. there's no excuse not to wash them. esp the last time i washed them was 6 weeks ago.

washing brushes

i wash them with my shampoo and conditioner (optional for real hair brushes). i bought them from aldi for only $2.99 each. so much cheaper that from other super markets. and they're good for my colored dry hair too!

when i first started using brushes, i treated them well. (think of lotr, my precious... lol!) i washed them with makeup brush cleaner which cost something like $25+. then i read some beauty-related newsgroups where people mentioned that they wash their brushes with just shampoo - if it's good for your hair, it's good for your brushes too.

imo, they're detergents. i couldn't tell the difference. they are equally cleaned. the only difference is price.

just wash them in luke warm water. not hot water. and don't soak them for too long.

air dry the brush. they're usually dried within a day. real hair brushes takes less time to dry. the kabuki brushes, which is synthetic and thick, takes at least 1.5 days to dry.

drying brushes

after years of abuse, they're still in good condition.

even though i have so many brushes, i don't use all of them. only a few essential ones that are used dailies. others are used on adhoc basis. some aren't used! but since they're all stored together in a jar exposed to air, i wash them all at the same time. just too lazy to work out which was or wasn't used.

TriciaWow, that's a whole lot of brushes. Looks like my kids' paint brushes! I just bought my first 2 make up brushes last week! Have only been using whatever the product came with before this. I bought a blush and a eye shadow brush from ulta. I definitely like the eye shadow one more than those sponge ones that most products come with.

the brush collection built up over the years. :p
the only sponge ones that i really like are the ones from bourjois. they last forever! most of the ones that comes with products disintegrated after a while. the ones from bourjois still works like a charm after many years! but i still prefer using a brush to apply eye shadows - it blends better.
