the most important protection

skin care

in australia we're often educated the importance of using sunscreen. this country has the highest skin cancer rate in the world.

using sunscreen is an integral part of my makeup routine. it's not cancer i'm worried about. it's worried being not pretty. even though i grew up here i'm like most typical asians who think white is beauty. i used to believe that my skin won't tan with sunscreen. big. fat. lies!

ever since using mineral foundations, i've been a bit slack with sunscreens. because mineral foundations already contains sunscreen.

since the start of summer i noticed that my skin tanned more. it's normal that my skin tanned in summer because we're more exposed to strong sun. but i started to think, i probably am not getting enough protection from using mineral foundation alone.

note: please don't quote me on this. i'm not expert. i'm just saying from a user's point of view.

i always thought i'm quite well protected because i use sunscreen religiously. until i saw it on tv where expert said that most of us don't apply enough to get the full protection. we need at least a teaspoon just for the face!

i don't use a lot of mineral foundation. i just get a small amount for the whole face. does it give me sufficient protection??

so i started looking around for sunscreen for the face.

sunscreens

my current sunscreens for the face. nivea light feel daily face veil spf 30 and neutrogena ultra sheer daily face sunscreen lotion spf 30+.

i like neutrogena more because it feels more light-weighted. the nivea one seems heavy, probably better for the winter.

i dont wear any sunscreen at all when i was younger, but i kinda do because i notice that if i dont in the summer i'll notice that i get a lot more freckles! i usually just put sunscreen on my body... it's good to start taking care of our body. :)

I totally agree with you, it's important to protect yourself with sun screen from getting skin cancer. I also really hate it, but I'm prone in getting freckles.

I normally use Neutrogena SPF 15 moisturizer. At first I really didn't like the smell, and I felt the moisturizer was a bit thick, but after using it I really like it and I got used to the smell. I finished using two tubes of it and I have to get a new one soon.

oh yeah! totally agree on how crucial sunblock is. i cannot live without it! i reapply it daily too yet freckles and sun spots manage to appear on my face... *sigh* i'm more worried about having sun spots than keeping my skin pale.

@linda, i didn't use sunscreen on my face much when i was younger too. i had oily skin and all sunscreens makes my face shine.

@cynthia, are you using the same neutrogena sunscreen i'm using? neutrogena usually smells quite nice.

@annie, reapply? won't it mess up your makeup?

The Neutrogena moisturizer I'm currently using is -

Healthy Defense® SPF 15 Daily Moisturizer

I think now they bumped up SPF 30.

uhmm not really, maybe just the blush that would be a little fade out - i don't use foundation you know :) don't they say that you have to reapply sunblock every so often? maybe we get more brutal sun in california...

in theory it needs to be reapplied every 4hrs. if reapplied it's going to mess up my foundation.
in theory i should have backup foundation in office, but it's just too much trouble.
