i remove makeup with qv bath oil. i filled up shu uemura's cleansing oil pump bottle with it because this product does not come with a pump.
shu uemura cleansing oil was my previous love. it was expensive but i used it religiously for quite a few years. this is the only expensive cleanser i happily splurged on. before then i've tried expensive and cheap makeup removers and they're more or less the same to me.
until one day i had dry skin and i turned to bath oil for help. i noticed how similar it is to the cleansing oil. after one try i switched.
it's less than aud$20! compared to about aud$100 per small bottle. with around the same price you can get the big bottle in hk!
just don't get the product too close to your eyes because it stings. it's ok to remove eye makeup, but not eye liners.
i don't remember if shu uemura's cleansing oil stings because back then i don't put eyeliners that close to the eyes.
my cleansing routine
remove eye makeup with extra virgin olive oil.
remove the rest of face makeup with qv bath oil.
cleanse my face with qv gentle cleanser.

As long it does the job to clean your beautiful face that's all it matters. =) I'm in the same situation I really don't care about high end brands when the cheaper brands can do the job well too. 
wow i didnt know evoo is that useful!! i have clinique eye makeup remover i didnt like it too much, but i guess i need to let it soak my eye lid a little bit b4 i start to rub it off. 
@linda, with olive oil you don't need to 'soak' a bit. you can rub it off straight away!
