save the sahara

skin care

as previously mentioned, my skin is like a desert at the moment. this started some winters ago. it was quite traumatic initially. i've always had oily skin and had no idea what to do. i always used things labelled 'oil-free' and i had to start not looking for products with this label look for things like 'dry skin'.

vaseline

the vaseline that i always used as lip balm only. super nice when my lips are dried and cracked. but on my face?! i thought it was crazy! but now i swear by it!

years ago when i read posts mentioning their mothers / grandmothers use and swear by it. and now i swear by it! how sad to realized i'm not young anymore and reaching that stage...

of course i don't apply it to the whole face. i rubbed vaseline between my fingers to warm up the product and lightly pat to the dry area on the face.  i only do it at night. or when i don't get out of the house.

i use it as eye cream at night too.

here are some of the tried and tested products i've use to combat dry skin. i'm hoping they will save me this winter! they are kind to your wallets too!

for dry skin

from left to right: bio oil, dermaveen moisturizing cream, cetaphil intensive moisturizer.

bio oil

i was skeptical about applying bio oil on my face. i tried olive oil, which people claim is good for dry skin. i didn't like the greasiness. i also feel like a bowl of salad.

i requested a sample from the website. it was many years ago and i don't know if they still do it. i got quite a generous amount of sample. so much i tried it as body moisturizer as well. i was amazed how the product was absorbed. there's still some greainess residue but this doesn't bother me as much as olive oil did.

when used as moisturizer, i don't apply to the whole face. on the drier patches and avoid t-zone. and follow up with my moisturizer of the moment. i use this product at night only or when i 'm not going out.

besides using it to combat dry skin, i occassionally applied on my tummy when i was pregnant. please read, occassionally. i don't have stretch marks. i don't know if i'm blessed or it's the product.

dermaveen moisturizing cream

this is one of my regular moisturizers. who needs expensive cream when something less than $10 works!

this is very nourishing. however this does not save my dry skin on winter days. so i'm shelfing this till winter is over.

cetaphil intensive moisturizer

gotta love something under $10. this is more intensive than the above. my holy grail moisturizer in cold dry winter days.

i really should have learned my lesson and started using this before winter came. but i wanted to finish the above tube and didn't want to open a new product. the price to learn for being a miser...

if you have dry skin too, please let me know how you combat your dry skin in the comments.
