i always love red lips. sexy. classic. elegant. various shades of reds.
have you seen one of pixiwoo's 1930 look makeup tutorial where sam wears a nice dark red lip color? absolutely classic. the lipstick used is Beaute's Weightless Lip Creme in Masochist, which of course not available in australia. but i'm hoping i can win one because lipstick rules is giving it away! and not many giveaways is open internationally!
here's me in one of my favorite true red lipstick, mac viva glam:
to make the red lips stand out, all facial makeups are kept to the minimal and used a lighter shade of foundation. think, snow white.
items used
edm mineral foundation in fairly light neutral. this is my winter foundation. it's now summer and i'm a bit tanned and it's paler than my current skin tone. perfect for this snow white like look.
shu uemura eye shadow in charcoal to fill in the brows. use the same product as eye liner.
l'oreal soft effects eyecolor in mocha buff. this is not very pigmented. perfect to give a bit of contour yet gives this no-makeup look. use the darker brown to smudge the black eyeliner from the above to give a very soft smokey effect.
silk naturals blush in climax.
mac lipstick in viva glam. a perfect true red in color for me.

Red lipstick is hard to use, but I really like the color. Like you said it's really sexy and elegant - you look absolutely great in it. Will try this whenever I have the time. I think I buy more make-up than playing with it ha ha. 
@michelle, thanks for stopping by :)@cynthia, i always thought red lipstick is easiest to use. it goes with almost everything! ha, buying makeup is so much fun! i missed those days. unfortunately i have to cut my spending and can't spend that much nowadays.
Red lipstick are tricky because you need to find a right shade of red to much your own skin tone otherwise I'll end up looking like a joker from the Batman movie. @cynthia, it can't be that bad! when i started makeup i was afraid of red too! i always chose something with brown tone to make it no too red, and blot blot blot so that it's doesn't look too red. if memory serves me correctly revlon toast of new york was my favorite red back in those days.
