sigma makeup brushes review, part 1

i had more time to play with my new toys over the weekend. it was fun and exciting. like a little kid who's been dreaming for a toy and finally got it!

the brush roll.

the 12-brush set.
apart from the odor, i'm quite happy with them. well, most of them. as you can see some of them are still in the plastic packaging. i haven't had time to play with them all yet.
since most said that sigma makeup brushes are mac clones, i tried to compare them with my existing mac brushes.

my mac 5-brush set i bought about 10+ years ago. if i remember correctly, it was x'mas special. i love the red handles. there were numbers on the handles but after years of use the paint has gone. i can never remember the numbers anyway.
the handles of these sigma makeup brushes aren't too bad too. in fact it's one of the best amongst the brushes i own.

the powder brushes. left mac, right sigma makeup. i've never really like mac's powder brush because it seems harsh. it's also shedding a lot recently. comparatively sigma makeup's brush is so much softer. i really like how it feels on my face. this brush sheds when washed and used initially. after a few more wash the shedding seems settle down.
the only downside is the smell. i had to hold my breathe when using this. the odor seems to fade a bit but it's still there. i'm hoping it will eventually gone with few more washes.

sigma makeu pencil brush. i absolutely love its precise application. i've always had trouble applying colors at inner corner and this is just perfect!

i don't have a mac version of this brush. the closes i have is the a smaller smudge brush as shown above. it's fatter and shorter than the pencil brush. that's what i've been used to apply colors on the inner corner and it's not doing a good job. i always thought i had bad application skill until i use this pencil brush!
but that brush is good for smudging eyeliners. i haven't tried smudging eye liners with the pencil brush.

comparing the mac and sigma makeup angle brushes. both are soft and feels similar. sigma makeup's is a bit narrower. both application are the same.

here are all my angle liner brushes. from left to right, the body shop, ecotools, mac and sigma makeup.
the tbs one has to be thrown away. it's hard and harsh. but i'm still keeping it because i like the handle. the others are equally good.

foundation brushes. i don't have a mac version. from left to right, david jones, eco tools and sigma makeup.
the sigma makeup brush feels softer. but i haven't used this brush yet so i can't compare.

the blending brushes. from left to right, sigma makeup bonus brush, sigma makeup and mac.
i never really like the mac one. maybe because the handle broke off and it's never really glued back. so it makes holding the brush difficult.
have to mention i think the bonus blending brush is the best! it's even better than the blending brush that comes with the set. yet this brush has the strongest odor. you can smell it even when it's use on the eyes, far away from the nose!
impression so far
apart from the odor, these brushes are very good. best of all, they are affordable. consider i'm from australia where everything cost 2x as much, these are bargain!
if you are sensitive to smell like me, the odor of the brushes may be an issue. this only apply to a few brushes. it's quite unsual that brushes smell like this. i've never experienced this with any of my brushes. however i heard that they will eventually go away. as noted in my previous post, sigma will exchange the bad ones (excellent customer service!) this is something i hope and try not to get into because i dont' like going to post office. i will give them more time.
