makeup

mary kay lip quad

mary kay spiced cider lip cremes that i got as gift a few years ago. different tones of reds from a more natural red to dramatic red. the silver and the gold are glosses.

red lip is one of my favorite looks. it makes the overlook more sophisticated. even just by itself with a bare face. it's also an intant upgrade for day-into-night look.

i prefer true reds or reds with brownish tone. not orangy red - i don't look good in them.

i'm not a fan of lip palettes because it's messy. as you can see from the pic. i tried to clean it a bit to take the photo but it's still messy.

i'm also not a fan of lip brushes. i know i know, all makeup tips advise to use lip brush. it gives a better finish. i totally agree. however, whenever i use lip brush it  doubles the time applying directly from tubes. i only use brush when i have time and when i really want to blend different colors well.

i haven't been wearing the red lips look for a while. i was doing some research about different makeups in the last century and landed on the 40's and 50's look where red lips was one of the features. reminds me how much i miss the red lips look!

features of makeup in that era... thin brows. thick upper eye liner. well defined lips. most pics are in black and white so i'm not too certain if they're all red. but some articles said it's red.

i modified the look so that it's more suitable for nowadays and more wearable.

modified 40's look

i ditched the thick eye liner look since it'll look too dated and i'm still not skillful enough to draw a nice eye liner. originally i had winged the end of the eye liner, but i stuffed up. :(

my brows were tweezed so that it's a bit thinner, but not 40's or 50's thin (ie very very thin!) because i don't look good with very thin brows.

products used

mac pressed powder foundation in c2 - this is really old since mac changed it's color system many years ago. it's dry so it's less likely to be a medium for contamination growth - but don't quote me on this, i'm not an expert in this field. applied with foundation brush. this product was for the matte look in the 90's. but applying with foundation brush make it less matte yet gives a very good coverage. i even used it to conceal my dark undereye circles.

filled the brows with edm brow powder in dark brown.

isadora eye shadow duos in beige khaki. it's just ligh and dark brown. apply the light brown over the whole upper and lower lids. use the dark brown across the crease line along the socket line.

laura mercier eye powder in milky way - i think this has been discontinued. it's a pearly pinkish white in color. applied from lash line to crease. also applied at inner corner to brighten the eyes.

line the top lashline with laura mercier caviar eye liner in black with a flat eye liner brush. you can make it thicker if preferred. i only did a thin line so that i can step out of the house without looking too dramatic.

revlon blush in honey brown frost. the color is shimmery brown. instead applied on apple of the cheeks, i applied on the hollow of cheek bone to create a high cheek bone look.

covergirl trublend naturally luminous blush in shimmering sand on the apple of cheeks as highlight. the color is very very sheer but has a bit of shimmers. that's the shimmer i want. note that this product is now repackaged, i don't know if the colors are still compatible.

mary kay lip quad - lined the lip with the darkest red (center bottom) and filled the lips by mixing the center 2 reds. glossed with the golden color.
