happy chinese new year of the tiger

the red envelopes for the kids, nieces and nephews. the hello kitty ones are for the girls.

it's good that we're in australia we don't distribute these red envelopes to the singles. only kids in our famiy gets them.

look of the day

the traditional color for this event is red. it means good luck. the more red the better. i was thinking going for a red look. but since i was going to family dinner where most of them don't wear makeups, or at most lipsticks, i don't want to shock them. too much red can also look like those actors at chinese opera.

i also wanted to keep my eyes makeup free. not because i wanted to look 'normal'. i think i used a too-coarse cotton pad to remove eye makeup and my the outer corner of my right eye lid was quite sensitive.

i went for a soft pink look.

new year look 2

for the base, laura mercier foundation primer, laura mercier tinted moisturizer in nude, shu uemura translucent loose powder. this will keep the face matte, which looks better for photos. things that we do on events like cny.

edm dark brown on the brows.

clarins bronzing powder under the cheek bone.

silk naturals blush in charming on the apple of the cheek, extend to above the brow, like a C shape. the outer corner of the eyes were also dusted the same product with the same blush brush. similar to michelle phan's geisha makeup tutorial, but keep the color really soft and subtle, unless you'd like to shock your family and relatives. =)

no eyeliner. no mascara.

guerlain les meteorites to highlight the forehead, nose and above the cheeks.

silk naturals lipstick in very berry. a very soft berry pink.

new year look

it's not too obvious yet enhances 'be yourself' look. and it's not 'too much' when standing amonst people who don't wear makeup.

since it's also valentine's day today, this look is also suitable for those to celebrate with their love ones. most men i know prefer women with less makeup. dramatic makeups might shock them. you can be yourself with this 'be yourself' look! (don't i sound harcore? ha!)

pretty girl loves my look too. she was like, 'oh pink eyeshadow! oh pink lipstick!' pink is her favorite color.

CynthiaI did the same exact thing, trying to look natural for Chinese New Year lunch with my husband side of the family. I used pink eye shades and a light nude lipstick. When I saw my annoying brother in law, he asked me what's wrong with my face. I said to him that it's called make up and I wore my make up proudly.
