deep blue eyes

what do you do when you have the house all to yourself? time to play and experiment with makeups. trying out new things you normally don't have time with.

in this particular case, the 'new' thing was an 'old' item.

the brand is .au, which no longer exists. it was one of the cheaper brands. but i only own 2 eyeshadows from this line. you get little breakeages from these eyeshadows from time to time. seems to me they're weren't properly pressed.

.au eyeshadow in universe

.au eyeshadow in universe. the color is very intense deep dark blue. looks very pretty from the case.

color swatches

the color swatched at the back of my hand. left taken from normal window light. right taken directly under the sunlight.

swatching it again (after so many years of not touching it) reminds me why i don't use this color. it's not very pigmented. and the product is very loose, ie lots of fallouts.

but since i wasn't going anywhere, i decided to play with this product anyway.

the look

i tried to take pics for step by step tutorial. but bathroom doesn't get enough lights to take clear pics. the result wasn't too stunning anyway. doubt this would inspire anyone to copy.

on the eyes

the end result. the color could've been more intense if i had used some waxy based pencil as base. the intense blue you see on the lashline was achieved with lining the eyes with a black eyeliner and repressed the same product over it.

blue smokey eyes

either this look is not for me or i need to improve my smokey eye skills.

since it was just an experiment i didn't put any foundation. just cover up my panda eyes with a concealer.

here's roughly how the eyemakeup was done:

  • apply .au eyeshadow in universe all over the lids with sigma makeup medium eyeshadow brush. extend above the crease line. don't worry if it's messy.
  • dip sigma makeup blending brush with darkest blue from bys diamond eyeshadow palette and run in wiper motion across the crease to soften the edge.
  • line upper and lower waterlines with bourjois clubbing waterproof eyepencil in black party. draw a top eyeliner with the same pencil.
  • cover the top eyeliner from above step with .au eyeshadow in universe with sigma makeup pencil brush.
  • l'oreal eye smoker in indigo (navy) on outer 2/3 of lower lashline
  • use yellow-orange color from bys diamond eyeshadow palette on inner corners and line the inner 2/3 of lower lashline, overlapping the navy from above step.
  • use a highlight color on the brow bone.

i don't know how long it takes because i was experimenting with various products along the way. but trying to outline how it was done, i couldn't help gasping, omg! it is complicated! not something i'd do everyday.

i think this look won't look too bad if it's done properly.

i probably won't use this product as eyeshadow on its own. but it's good to be applied over eyepencil liners to bring out the intensity of the color.
