black smokey eyes

this is a kate moss smokey eye look. i'm not a fan of kate moss. but i'm a fan of pixiwoos' makeup tutorials. i found it while looking for makeups in the 20s. and i'm hooked!
the makeup tutorials are done by 2 sisters who are both makeup artists. it's a plus. they do a variety of looks and they look good in everything! i hope i won't be using up this month's bandwidths watching so many tutorials from this channel!

the kate moss inspired makeup tutorial at youtube. i wasn't going to click it when i saw 'kate moss'. but i clicked anyway. and i'm glad i did.
it's basically black smokey eyes look. i've seen many smokey eye tutorials but this one makes me want to try because it looks easier. it doesn't use a million colors like most smokey eye tutorials do.
items used
i don't have the best memories and i only remember some of the key colors she used. i digged through my collection and selected these products to recreate the look.
laura mercier caviar eye liner. shu uemura eye shadow in charcoal (i usually use this as brow color). hard candy eye shadow in platinum. laura mercier eye pencil in black violet. australis chubbie pencil in dusk (it's for eye, cheek and lips, but discontinued). rimmel lash maxxx mascara. l'oreal brow colorist in light auburn (not pictured).
carviar eye liner could also be used to create smokey eyes. that's what product description says. but i never got it to work. so it stays to be just my eye liner.
you're seeing a lot of discontinued or old items in my blog. nowadays i try not to buy and use what i have. i'm cutting down my spending. you don't have to buy what you see or use the exact product. if you have some collections yourself, try to use what you have. there are always some similar colors. some experts says product have their lifetime. for me, if the product doesn't smell or look bad, i will continue to use it (with mascara the exception).
the look

i can't remember how many shades of black and greys were used in the tutorial. i just use black to fill up the lid up to the eye socket and the light grey all the way up.
i usually modify looks with minimal colors because i don't have the skills nor the tools to create the original look. and i want to spend minimal time doing things.
i probably look better with darker brow color. i used a much lighter color because the tutorial suggested a light color.

hmm... the black is folded inside the lid when i open my eyes. probably need to apply black shadow further up the socket line. (and i just noticed how the left eye wasn't blended properly /redface)
and... you can't see my lashes :( i think i've applied 4 or 5 coats already! my lashes are feeling very heavy!
i was just playing with the eye makeup, so i didn't put foundation on my face. just a bit of foundation as base for the eyes. and after the eye makeup is done, clean up the bottom eye area and conceal.
since i was not going to get out of the house with this, i do what i don't do, filled my lips with nude color. remember what i always say nude does to me? i look dead and sick. out of the many pics i can only get one that's more presentable, and it's blurry...

maybe the blurness makes me look a bit better. :)
i later colored my lips with more color. i looked so much better! even a strong red lip can team up this look!
this look is probably too dramatic for the day, but should look good at night.
i know, i should start taking pics properly with digicam so that it correctly demonstrates the colors. i have one, but... it's just so convenient to use iphone because it's with me all the time.
