a little bit dramatic

dramatic look from making faces by kevyn aucoin. the instruction seems simple. but i think there are more to do to achieve the look.

my attempt to recreate the look. due to crappy phone cam and insufficient sunlight it looks abit ashy. and as usual, it doesn't look as dramatic in picture than in real life. going to grocery shopping with this is definely too much.
items used

edm mineral foundation in fairly summer as foundation and concealer. when i got this color a few months ago, i thought it looks too dark. but on summer months, it's perfect match for me.
l'oreal brow colorist in light auburn. the color is light reddish brown. i chose this color so the focus is more on the eyes.
bourjois eye shadow in rose perle as eye shadow base all over top and bottom eyes.
line top lash line with laura mercier carvier eye liner in black. line top and bottom eyes with laura mercier kohl eye pencil in black violet. smudge with smudge brush. for a softer look smudge with a lighter color eye shadow.
urban decay eye shadow in ydk on top lid. this is dark shimmery brown.
maybelline great lash in black.
bourjois blush in rose d'or.
mac lip pencil in spice. line and fill in lips.
nivea caregloss & shine in red glamour - i was going to gloss lips with just vaseline on top of mac spice. but i don't look good in nudish color. so i added a bit of red so i don't look sick.
p.s
i was going to play the makeover game – post a picture of yourself with hairstyle and makeup of an era you like. i don't have an era that i particularly like. so i was looking around for inspiration and found making faces. i bought this book many years ago after reading all the raves on alt.fashion newsgroup. back in the late 1990 and early 2000 most of my virtual life was spent there. until the newgroup became something it wasn't once were.
i'm still looking for an era for a mekover...

another way to avoid messiness is to do eye makeup first, then put on foundation AFTER you do you eye makeup. then you can clean up all the messiness without spoiling your foundation. i've tried dusting loose powder under eyes to do the dark makeup, but this doesn't work well for me.
