Look Good… Feel Better – Lipsticks and My Story

Look Good... Feel Better - Dream week - 7 days of lipstick

Last week I participated #7daysoflipstick tag on Instagram, where you post selfies wearing bright bold lips everyday of the week. It was Dream Week 2014 campaign / challenge to raise awareness and funds for Look Good… Feel Better program to help cancer patients to attend workshops to help them to boost their confidence and well being.

During that week, with every lipstick sold at major department stores $1 will be donated. Since I’m in tight-ass mode, I find that direct donation is more practical, and that funds home-delivered box to help those who are unable to attend the workshop.

There have been various challenges on Twitter and Instagram and it was the first time I participated from beginning to the end. After all, it for a period of 7 days. It’s not hard. (To see what lipsticks I wore, scroll to the end of the post.)

The #7daysoflipstick tag on Instagram is quite successful online event, because it caught my attention. I have been living under a rock. Prior to this I have never heard of such organization nor there exists such programs.

As someone who battled cancer, I’m glad there are organizations doing wonderful things to help cancer patients.

To make the long story short, I had Thyroid Cancer, discovered less a month after finding out I was pregnant with Pretty Girl. She’ll be 9 next month and I’m still alive with lifetime hormone prescription.

While what I had was “The best news in bad news” (quoting my doctor) and the treatment I had didn’t have side-effects affecting my appearance, I still went through a lengthy period of ugliness due to hormonal changes. That did somewhat affect my self confidence, self value and self esteem. And it wasn’t something makeup nor skin care could fix.

Forget the ‘Beauty comes from within’ crap. In the society we live in where most people judge you from the outside first, part of our confidences come from our looks. Why do you think makeups and skin cares exist?

So, this is another reason why such event and organization caught my attention.

How do you find the MAC lipsticks? Miss 17 has been disappointed with hers, despite how expensive they are and everybody raving about them. They are the only ones that bleed whenever she wears them!

Hi Janet, I used to like MAC lipsticks when I was younger when I could afford buying lipsticks all the time and they have wide range of colors to choose from. I don’t wear them often now because I find them quite drying for my dry flaky lips. In addition their service sucks most times, so I stayed away from the counter after a bad experience. I don’t have bleeding problem with MAC lipsticks though. If Miss 17 has bleeding problem, maybe try to line her lips with lip pencil first and blot after application?
