cutting hair at home

parenthood, hair

i'm not talking about cutting my hair, of course. though i did cut my own hair during my student days, to save money. well, just the fringe.

nowadays i'm hairdresser / stylist to the rest of the family. for the same reason, to save money. i always joked that i use the money saved to fund my haircut expense. :p

i need help of a good hair clipper to cut the husband's and the boy's hairs.

for the past 6 or 7 years, i've been using an at-home hair clipper by remington that i bought at myer. i think it was around aud$50 back then. it's a rechargeable version because i hate having the cord getting in the way. but using the rechargeable battery means it has be charged in advance. if the power goes out you can't just plug the cord back in. and being rechargeable battery, they will eventually die. the amount of time you can use per cut decrease over time. eventually it becomes unusable.

we went to look for a new one.

we couldn't find anything good at myer nor david jones. we turned to kmart and target. because we've been using for remington for so many years and didn't have much problem, we bought something from the same brand, but a cheaper version. only aud$19.95. wow! nice price!

but... yes, big fat BUT, it's the shittiest gadget i've ever use. the moment it's turn on, i know it wouldn't work. you hardly get any power out of it. it's so slow. you have to clip hair really slowly or it'll pull the hair. the clipper guide also sucks - they could poke your head if not used correctly!

what a huge disappointment! can't believe a brand that made something so usable for around 7 years could ended up making product so unusable. they really have to pull that product out of market!!

after using it only once, no one has chased me to cut their hair. :p we always said we have to get a new one by the next cut. after a few months, their hair have grown so long. the boy finally begged to have a cut last week, even though he was warned it's going to hurt. there were a lot of screaming along the way. i think it took me more than 30 mins on the job. i've never spent that long cutting the boy's hair.

the husband refused to let me use that on him.

so we check out 2 major department store again. nothing good.

so we got this baby

wahl deluxe chrome pro

we went to shaver shop at local mall. the husband has bought a shaver there and love the service. they're so professional and knowledgeable. they know what they're talking about! nothing something you can get from most sales staff from myer and david jones...

we were advised to get wahl. this is what professionals used. even though the store also sell the cheapie ones that we bought, we were strongly advised against those. (why are they selling them??)

and guess what. this baby rocks!

the minute it was plugged in and turn on, you feel a major difference! the power. the vibration. how quick and smooth during the clipping process. i finish a haircut in less than 15mins!

it even made the first hair clipper that i thought was good look bad!

the canvas pack

the canvas bag where you store the clipper and the accessories.

inside

the accessories.

it

let me repeat, this baby rocks!

this is not cheap. it's almost aud$100. but it's well worth it! trust me!!

the only thing i don't really like is the cord. but let's face it, most of them have cords and it probably last longer.

btw, i used it on the husband last night. i think he looks really good :) oh, probably too handsome other women are going to snatch him!! ha!

fyi, i've never been trained to cut hair. i just learn from observation. do not compare the result with the professional. haircut done by prettymom needs to wait about 2 weeks to show it's true style :p

let me warn you again

stay away from the cheap remington hair clipper. it's waste of money! unless if you want to make your men cry...
